The symposium "Equal rights, de facto inequalities in the Americas, multidisciplinary approaches" will focus on the problems of inequality as well as on the forms of resistance or mobilization for equality. The approach proposed by the conference will be above all plural and interdisciplinary; all approaches will be welcome, whether they relate to history, sociology, anthropology, geography, urban planning, architecture, art history, natural and environmental sciences, law, narratology, etc. The analyses may adopt a diachronic as well as a synchronic perspective and also rely on the comparison between several situations of inequality/equality. The analysis of "inequalities" will be done according to an intersectional approach, crossing gender, social class, racialization, age, sexual orientation, religion... This conference will be resolutely comparative and participants are invited to propose crosscountry or regional perspectives. All scales of relationship are welcome: family, community, municipal, local, provincial, state, continental. The concrete situations will be privileged, in particular within the framework of our title and its reference to "de facto inequalities". The actors in the field will therefore have the lion's share in these exchanges, but we will not forget public policies, institutions, private companies, and organizations of all kinds that are often "in front". The Americas present a very striking ratio of inequality/equality compared to Europe. In South America, for example, economic inequalities are relatively high. If we look at the indicators of the share of income for the richest 10% and the poorest 10%, we see an over-appropriation of the former and an under-appropriation of the latter, with a greater gap than in Europe as a whole. In North America, the figures for the United States are comparable to those of Argentina, while those of Canada tend to be closer to those of Western Europe (World Perspective, 2019).
